Songs In Small Rooms: Celebrating Lyrical Poetry With Judith Saunders

April 27, 2017

Join us to celebrate National Poetry Month! Discussion will focus on poetry as a special form of communication; we’ll identify features that lend lyric utterance its singular power and appeal. Working with a handful of short poems by contemporary writers, we’ll consider aspects ranging from structure, sound, rhythm, and syntax to figurative language, literary allusion, and cultural-historical context. Poets to be discussed will include Billy Collins, Mary Jo Salter, Charles Tomlinson, Kay Ryan, Eamon Grennan, and William Bronk. Judith Saunders is Professor of English at Marist College.
