What's the Point? - Calvert Vaux and the Hoyt House

June 21, 2018

The purpose of this program is to receive input from the public about the future of the Hoyt House.

For half a century, the Hoyt House, a Calvert Vaux-designed country residence overlooking the Hudson River in Staatsburg, NY, has sat unused and unoccupied. The important stone structure, also known as “The Point,” was featured in Vaux’s book, “Villas and Cottages.” Calvert Vaux was the prodigious 19th century architect and designer best known for his partnership with Frederick Law Olmsted in the creation of New York City’s Central Park. Hoyt House/The Point is singular in its place in architectural history – embodying the picturesque in every facet of its design and landscape. Time and neglect have taken a tremendous toll, but it is not too late to return it to grandeur and productive use.

Calvert Vaux Preservation Alliance (CVPA) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit advocacy organization dedicated to preserving the design legacy of Calvert Vaux and spearheading restoration and reuse of Hoyt House/The Point in Staatsburg, NY.
