October Book Selection: NEA Big Read - Burning Bright by Ron Rash

Where is Appalachia? What is "Appalachian"? How does one even pronounce Appalachia? Welcome to the world of Ron Rash, "one of the best writers in America writing about Appalachia"

The NEA Big Read title for 2019 is Ron Rash's collection of shore stories from Appalachia entitled Burning Bright. The twelve short stories in this book tell the story of Appalachia from farm to subdivision, Civil War to the present, love to heartbreak. Traditions face off against progress and survival trumps all else. The stories are inhabited by flawed characters facing wrenching moral dilemmas.

Free copies of the book are available at the circulation desk while supplies last.
