Poetry Night
With Judith Saunders, Lucia Cherciu & Raphael Kosek
Flora & Fauna - Wild & Tamed
Flora and Fauna (Wild and Tamed)
Poems at this reading will feature plant and animal life: familiar and exotic, wild and cultivated, from squirrels and daffodils to wombats and kudzu.
How does the natural world around us, with its extraordinary diversity of species, ignite our senses? In what unexpected ways does it enlarge and nurture the human spirit?
Lucia Cherciu is the author of six books of poetry, including Immigrant Prodigal Daughter (Kelsay Books, 2023), Train Ride to Bucharest (Sheep Meadow Press, 2017), which received the Eugene Paul Nassar Poetry Prize, and Edible Flowers (Main Street Rag, 2016). Her work has appeared in Poetry, Antioch Review, and elsewhere, including numerous Romanian magazines. Cherciu is Professor of English at SUNY/Dutchess Community College, and served as the 2021-2022 Dutchess County, NY Poet Laureate.
Raphael Kosek’s HARMLESS ENCOUNTERS, won the 2021 Jesse Bryce Niles Chapbook Contest. AMERICAN MYTHOLOGY, (Brick Road Poetry Press), was released in 2019. She served as the 2019-2020 Dutchess County, NY Poet Laureate. She teaches at Dutchess Community College.
