Lunchtime Learning at the Beatrix Farrand Garden
Located at the Home of FDR National Historic Site
4097 Albany Post Rd., Hyde Park, NY 12538
    REGISTRATION REQUESTED

The first installment in an ongoing series! Led by Horticulturist Karen Waltuch, the program will begin with a tour of the Beatrix Farrand Garden, located on the Roosevelt-Vanderbilt Historic Site in Hyde Park. Beatrix Farrand was the first professional woman landscape gardener in America, and in 1899, one of the founding members of the Society for Landscape Architects. During the tour, we’ll discuss this legendary landscape gardener’s career, the plantings, and the history of Bellefield–her oldest surviving residential work, completed in 1912–and then enjoy some time to respond artistically to the space. Materials and snacks provided. Bring your own bag lunch and enjoy it al fresco in the garden!

    About the Facilitator:

Gardener and musician Karen Waltuch came to the Hudson Valley to be the Horticulturist of the Beatrix Farrand Garden in 2018 after working and studying at several NYC institutions. An advocate for accessible public gardens, Karen enjoys engaging visitors in all things great and small in the natural world. When she’s not exploring fungi, insects, and seedheads she can be found on stage or in the studio as a professional violist.

The next event in this series will be on Tuesday, August 9th and will be led by Grace Angela Henry.
