NEA Big Read Book Discussion - Burning Bright by Ron RashNEA Big Read Book Discussion - Burning Bright by Ron Rash The adult book club is a dynamic group of readers that meet monthly for fun and lively discussions about a vast array of books, from contemporary to the classics. Where is Appalachia? What is "Appalachian"? How does one even pronounce Appalachia? Welcome to the world of Ron Rash, "one of the best writers in America writing about Appalachia" The NEA Big Read title for 2019 is Ron Rash's collection of shore stories from Appalachia entitled Burning Bright. The twelve short stories in this book tell the story of Appalachia from farm to subdivision, Civil War to the present, love to heartbreak. Traditions face off against progress and survival trumps all else. The stories are inhabited by flawed characters facing wrenching moral dilemmas. Free copies of the book are available at the circulation desk while supplies last. For information about joining the Book Club please call the Staatsburg Library |

Join us for a down-to-earth Community Conversation about Climate Change, how it is impacting Staatsburg, Hyde Park & the Hudson Valley, and what we can do individually and collectively about our rapidly changing world. This forum for community discussions are a collaborative effort between the Staatsburg Library and St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church and will be facilitated by David McNary. Our hope is that over six sessions we can address different aspects of climate change; identify clear and reliable sources of information about the status of climate change; identify global efforts to address it; identify the local impacts and actions that we can take as individuals and organizations; identify resources we access to continue this effort. If you would like a copy of the materials we will be discussing in advance of the meeting please email staatslibrary@gmail.com and we will send you a copy.
