The mission of The Great Give Back is to provide a day of opportunities for the patrons of the Public Libraries of New York State to participate in meaningful, service-oriented experiences.

We need your help to prepare the garden and plant milkweed seeds.
Working in collaboration with Candace Gallagher of the Pollinator Patrol Club and our neighbors at the Morton Memorial Library in Rhinecliff, we will be planting a pollinator pathway from library to library along the route 9/9G corridor.
Planting on October 16 will take place throughout the day at 4 locations (The Staatsburg Library, The Morton Memorial Library, The Rhinecliff Waterfront Park, Burger Hill) Join us for planting at any or all of the locations.

A Big Read 2021 Program
Contextualizing The Best We Could Do:
Graphic Depictions of the Women of the Vietnam War
Facilitated by Rose Grosskopf
Virtual Program
Thi Bui’s The Best We Could Do is one of many graphic novels that portray the experiences of Vietnamese women during and after the Vietnam War. Rose Grosskopf provides an overview of these depictions, from the GI-produced comics of the 1960’s to the refugee-created graphic memoirs of the 2010’s. This presentation follows her work as a Weiss Summer Research Fellow, examining illustrations of Vietnamese women alongside America’s evolving cultural memory of the war.
