Contextualizing The Best We Could Do:
Graphic Depictions of the Women of the Vietnam War
Facilitated by Rose Grosskopf
Virtual ProgramThi Bui’s The Best We Could Do is one of many graphic novels that portray the experiences of Vietnamese women during and after the Vietnam War. Rose Grosskopf provides an overview of these depictions, from the GI-produced comics of the 1960’s to the refugee-created graphic memoirs of the 2010’s. This presentation follows her work as a Weiss Summer Research Fellow, examining illustrations of Vietnamese women alongside America’s evolving cultural memory of the war.
