Led by spoken word and voiceover artist Grace Angela Henry, the program will begin with a tour of the Beatrix Farrand Garden, located on the Roosevelt-Vanderbilt Historic Site in Hyde Park. Beatrix Farrand was the first professional woman landscape gardener in America, and in 1899, one of the founding members of the Society for Landscape Architects. During the tour, we’ll discuss this legendary landscape gardener’s career, the plantings, and the history of Bellefield–her oldest surviving residential work, completed in 1912–and then enjoy some time to respond artistically to the space. Materials and snacks provided. Bring your own bag lunch and enjoy it al fresco in the garden!
About the Facilitator:
Spoken word and voiceover artist Grace Angela Henry has a background in early childhood development, education administration, planning, and social policy, but made a career change to acting and voice work with great success several years ago. She can be heard officially narrating the books-on-tape of Condoleeza Rice, as well as lending her voice to the award winning documentary short film ‘Shokran Toni’ reading the letters of Toni Morrison. https://graceangelahenry.com/
Sponsored by Staatsburg Library, Starr Library and the Beatrix Farrand Garden at Bellefield.

September 28, 2022Author Talk: Anthony Musso
Mothball Fleet On The HudsonAt midcentury, nearly 200 tremendous ships were kept moored along a 3-mile stretch of the Hudson River. Why?
Author Anthony Musso will share the story of the Mothball Fleet. At the fleet’s height in 1965, the U.S. Navy kept 189 military and merchant ships moored along a 3-mile stretch of the Hudson. It was such an impressive sight that pull-offs were constructed along Route 9W so motorists could stop and ogle.
Join us as Author Anthony Musso shares the story and his newly released book Mothball Fleet On The Hudson.
Signed copies of the book will be available for sale.Wednesday, September 28
